Painterly: How Two Painters Make the Paint Tell the Story
Opening: Friday, September 5, 5 to 7 pm
Exhibition: September 5 through 28
Vincent Joseph and Ileen Kaplan are painters whose use of paint embraces improvisation and even accident. Using nature as an inspiration both painters express nature in the language of the “painterly painting” by making light through the interaction of color and by using the fluidity of the materials and the characteristics of paint itself as a way to make form and space. In both of these artists’ paintings, the story is told not only by the forms but with the lush use of the paint.
Wayne Gottlieb. Wayne is a seasoned guitarist with roots in the Fingerlakes region. Wayne has a vast repertoire of music and music knowledge ranging from Jazz to traditional country music. Wayne is also a member of The Pelotones and The Village Swing Trio.

The Smith Center for the Arts, Inc. is committed to providing and sustaining diverse arts and education enrichment opportunities for Finger Lakes residents and visitors, while maintaining its historic venue – the Smith Opera House. The Smith Center for the Arts is both a presenting organization and a catalyst for enhancing the role of the arts in the Finger Lakes. The organization owns and operates the historic Smith Opera House, and coordinates numerous other arts advocacy projects.
